Using Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine for Narcolepsy
Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is also licensed for narcolepsy treatment. Symptoms of narcolepsy include falling asleep uncontrollably and at unusual times. People with narcolepsy often appear paralyzed when they are sleeping and have hallucinations when falling asleep. People who have narcolepsy symtpoms often fall asleep several times during the day.Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is a stimulant. For narcolepsy, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is generally used at higher doses than when used as a treatment for ADHD. These higher doses have a stimulating effect, helping people with narcolepsy to stay awake.
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine Use in Young Children
Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is not recommended for use in children under the age of three. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and the risks of using amphetamine and dextroamphetamine in young children.Off-Label Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine Uses
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend amphetamine and dextroamphetamine for something other than the condition(s) discussed above. This is called an "off-label" use.
