Generic Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine

Generic for Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine: An Overview

Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (Adderall®) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR (Adderall XR®), a long-acting form, is approved for use in ADHD treatment.

Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine and amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR are manufactured by Shire US, Inc. Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (but not amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR) is off patent and is available as a generic.

Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR is currently protected by a patent that prevents any generic amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR from being manufactured. Yet, if you search the Internet for "generic amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR," you may find a number of companies selling it. The fact is that these medicines are fake, substandard, and potentially dangerous. You should not buy any generic amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR until there is an approved generic available.

When Will There Be a Generic Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine XR?

The first patent for amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR currently expires in 2018. This is the earliest date that a generic version of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR could become available. However, there are other circumstances that could come up to extend the exclusivity period of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR beyond 2018. This could include things such as other patents for specific amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR uses or lawsuits. Once amphetamine and dextroamphetamine XR goes off patent, there may be several companies that manufacture a generic version of the drug.
