What Is Eszopiclone Used For? (Cont.)

How Eszopiclone Works

Eszopiclone is part of a class of medications called sedative/hypnotics, which are known more commonly as sleep medicines. In clinical studies, eszopiclone has been shown to help people fall asleep and to help them stay asleep longer. Like many other sleep medications, it is a controlled substance and may be abused, especially in people with a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Is Eszopiclone Used in Children?

Eszopiclone has not been tested in people under the age of 18. Therefore, eszopiclone use in children is not recommended. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about other ways to deal with childhood insomnia.

Is Eszopiclone Used Off-Label?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend eszopiclone for treating something other than the conditions listed above. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no universally recognized off-label uses for eszopiclone.
