Sleep Home > About Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine

Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (Adderall®) is commonly prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, it can also be used to treat narcolepsy. Even though this medication is a stimulant, which makes it useful as a narcolepsy treatment, at certain doses, it creates a calming effect in some people, which makes amphetamine and dextroamphetamine useful for ADHD.

This medication is not suitable for everyone. For example, if you have a heart condition of any kind, if you have any form of mental illness, or if you drink alcohol regularly, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine may not be the right treatment for you. Be sure to discuss your entire medical history with your healthcare provider, as well as any other medications, supplements, or vitamins you are taking.
