Valerian root, an herbal supplement derived from a perennial plant, is claimed to have a number of uses. However, people take it most often for the treatment of insomnia and other sleep disorders. The effectiveness of valerian root for other uses, such as the treatment of anxiety, depression, or epilepsy, will not be clear until more adequate research has been performed.
