Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder that causes people to experience fleeting urges to sleep at various times throughout the day. This is a result of the brain's inability to regulate sleep-wake cycles. People with narcolepsy may involuntarily fall asleep while at work or at school, when having a conversation, while eating a meal, or even when driving an automobile. Although there is no cure for narcolepsy, medications are available to help reduce the various symptoms of the disorder.
