Temazepam (Restoril®) is a prescription drug approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It comes in capsule form and is generally taken at bedtime, for no more than 7 to 10 days. The medication works by enhancing the effects of a naturally calming brain chemical, helping to relax muscles, cause sleepiness, and reduce anxiety. While most people tolerate temazepam well, potential side effects include dizziness, a hangover feeling, and drowsiness.
