Temazepam (Restoril®) is a medication that can be prescribed to treat insomnia. It is a type of benzodiazepine that works by enhancing the effects of a naturally calming brain chemical. Temazepam, which comes in capsule form and is available in four different strengths, should not be taken for longer than 7 to 10 days. You should talk to your healthcare provider before using this sleep medicine if you have lung or breathing problems, a history of drug or alcohol abuse, or any allergies.
