Side Effects of Triazolam

Headaches, dizziness, and drowsiness are among the most common side effects seen with triazolam. Side effects of triazolam are typically minor and, in many cases, are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, if you develop any serious triazolam side effects, such as suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, or signs of an allergic reaction, be sure to contact your healthcare provider immediately.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Triazolam

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with triazolam (Halcion®). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Triazolam

Triazolam has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to another group not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common side effects of triazolam included:

  • Drowsiness -- in up to 14 percent of people
  • Headaches -- up to 9.7 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 7.8 percent
  • Nervousness -- up to 5.2 percent
  • Lightheadedness -- up to 4.9 percent
  • Coordination problems -- up to 4.6 percent
  • Nausea or vomiting -- up to 4.6 percent.
