Zolpidem oral spray is a medication that is often prescribed for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It is approved for people who have difficulty falling asleep, as opposed to those who have trouble staying asleep. This drug has been shown to help people fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake less frequently. The medicine is sprayed directly into the mouth immediately before bedtime.

What Is Zolpidem Oral Spray?

Zolpidem oral spray (Zolpimist^™) is a prescription medication approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia in people with difficulty falling asleep (as opposed to difficulty staying asleep). It contains the same active ingredient as Ambien^® and Ambien CR^®, except it comes in the form of a fast-acting oral spray, instead of a tablet.

Like many other sleep medications, it is a controlled substance and may be abused.

Potential Side Effects

As with any medicine, zolpidem oral spray can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will have problems. Most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.

Common side effects of zolpidem oral spray include, but are not limited to:

Drowsiness

Dizziness
