Precautions and Warnings for Zolpidem

It is important to review all precautions and warnings for zolpidem before beginning treatment. For example, certain people should not take the sleep medicine, including those who are allergic to any components of zolpidem. Other warnings for the drug relate to pregnancy risks, alcohol use, withdrawal, and other issues.

Zolpidem: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

This article refers to short-acting zolpidem tablets (Ambien®). For other forms, see Edluar Warnings and Precautions (for zolpidem sublingual tablets), Zolpimist Warnings and Precautions (for zolpidem oral spray), or Ambien CR Precautions and Warnings (for zolpidem extended-release tablets).
 
Prior to taking zolpidem (Ambien), you should tell your healthcare provider if you have:
 
Let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
  • Pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding
  • Drinking alcohol.
     
Also, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you may currently be taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
